About Us

 Meet Roy!
Through years of trial and error, Carter developed about every kind of habitat imaginable. A natural delta, much of the island is natural marshes, which Carter can pump during dry years. Between fall rains and the pumps, much of the lush crop lands of corn, Milo, and soybeans are also flooded about the time when the first flock of migrants hit the area. But the operation’s trademark is the 2500 acres of prime flooded hardwoods and flooded grain fields that are strategically located for successful water fowling.

The Carter family has had waterfowl leases since the early 1900s and has provided a guide service to hunters since 1986.
For the first time in seven generations, the Carters are also doing land leases and sales.

 Meet Nick!
CBI Hunt Club’s Guide #1 Nick Smith was raised 2 miles from the Neosho Waterfowl Refuge Area outside St. Paul, KS. His passion for water fowling and big game hunting became second nature at an early age of 6. From seeing and hearing waterfowl migrating over his family farm and Roy Carter taking him along on phenomenal duck hunts, Nick was soon to live and breathe water fowling. Having big goblin’ turkeys and trophy whitetail at an arms fueled his big game addition soon after waterfowl. Coming from humble beginnings and having great mentors, Nick soon began utilizing his personal hunting skills into helping others achieve success in the field. This began when Nick began guiding hunters for CBI Hunting Club.

Whether standing in flooded timber or fields with his lab calling ducks into the decoys, or in woods, Nick always puts forth 100% effort to himself and his guests.  Since partnered with Roy, Nick has learned much about game management and property development. Much knowledge is essential for being a successful guide and Nick takes pride in knowing his business.
